Dear Ghost Enthusiast,

El Silbón wasn't always a ghost. He was once a spoiled son who demanded his father hunt for deer, his favorite meal. But fate turned sinister when his father returned empty-handed. Enraged, the son killed him, carving out his heart and liver, and had his mother cook them. It was only after tasting the tough, strange meat that she realized the horrifying truth—she had been tricked into cooking her husband’s innards.

In a fit of grief and fury, she cursed her son. But the boy’s punishment didn’t end there. His grandfather, driven by a thirst for vengeance, tied him to a post in the wilderness. With a whip, he flayed the boy’s back until it was a mess of blood and raw flesh. Then, in an act of brutal finality, he cleaned the wounds with alcohol, chili peppers, and lemon juice. A sack full of his father's bones was tied to the boy’s back, and he was set loose, chased by the grandfather's rabid dogs.

Condemned to carry his father's bones for eternity, El Silbón roams the plains. His presence is marked by an eerie, melodic whistle. The closer he gets, the softer the whistle becomes, deceiving those who hear it. If you ever find yourself in the Venezuelan plains and hear a distant whistle, pray it fades away. Because if it doesn’t, you might just become his next victim.
