Today, Poveglia remains uninhabited. Its ashen shores and decaying buildings are off-limits to tourists. Those who have managed to set foot on its soil speak of an oppressive atmosphere, disembodied whispers, and chilling encounters. Some even report hearing the ghostly screams of plague victims and the asylum's anguished souls.
