Long ago, during a time of famine, a Shoshone tribe faced a grim choice. Unable to feed their newborns, mothers were forced to take drastic measures. They carried their infants to the Snake River, releasing them into the waters. The cries of the babies, cut short by the rushing current, have never truly faded.

Today, visitors to Massacre Rocks claim to hear those same cries. The wail of a baby echoes through the canyons, an eerie sound that sends shivers down the spine. Some say the water babies are seeking their mothers, their spirits trapped in a restless loop.

Campers report seeing small, wet footprints along the riverbanks at dawn. The imprints lead to the water and vanish without a trace. Others speak of ghostly figures of children, glimpsed out of the corner of an eye, only to disappear when looked at directly.
